Brief Information
The first known house in the East Greek world was excavated in Smyrna (The Oval House , 925-900 BC.)
Smyrna’s city walls were the most ancient ones in the Greek world.  (850 BC.).
Homer, the first known Western poet was from Smyrna according to various sources. (The end of the 8th century BC.)
The first known boxing champion was Onomastus who represented Smyrna in the 23rd Olympic games (688 BC.)
The first known fountain in the Western world has been unearthed in Smyrna (The Archaic Fountain 6th century BC.)
Smryna was the first planned city in the Greek world having the early characteristics of the transition into grid plan (The Archaic Period).   
Smyrna housed the earliest known Athena Temple in the Greek world (The 2nd half of the 7th century BC. )
Smyrna was the birth place of Aeolic column capitals and Aeolic order (600 BC:)
Smyrna, in its golden age between the years 650-546 BC, imported not only effulgent Greek works but also Phoenecian goods, Cypriot statuettes, faience figurines from the Mesopotamian and Mediterrenean world and Lydian perfumes
Smyrna was located on the border between Aeolis and Ionia. The Aeiolian and Ionian dialects were intermingled in Homer’s epic poems whereas  the Aeolian and Ionian archaeogical materials were found intermixed in Smyrna’s settlement layers
Smyrna is located at the very center of Western Anatolia where the trade route which started in Basra ultimately reached at the sea.
Smyrna’s territory was approximately one hundred thousand meter square.
Smyrna was built of  andesite stones  coming from the Yamanlar Mountain and the important and beautiful buildings of the city were decorated by tuff coming from Phokaia .
