Agora
Agora

Although the agora of the city has not been unearthed yet, its probable location has been partly determined. A large building dated to the last quarter of the 7th century BC, which was still used in the 4th century BC, was located in the front of the Athena Temple’s southwestern corner. The doorway of this building was not located in the Athena Street but at the exact opposite corner. Situated in the agora among other religious and public buildings, this building was most probably a macellum.

In the eastern part of this building situated at the beginning of the Athena Street, there was another road in the southern direction. This road leads to the same area that is reached by walking to the west through the monumental entrance situated in the east of the city walls. However, when the soil mass of 2-3 meters high was examined through two soundings, it became clear that the soil was completely mixed up. It is unfortunately evident that this area was looted in the 19th century as it was the case with the necropolis in front of the city walls.
